48 hours after being injured, Jason was evacuated to Landstuhl, Germany. Heather was able to be at his side within three hours once in Germany. Jason underwent two surgeries within a four day stay at Landstuhl Hospital. Jason, Heather and Jason’s brother were flown to Walter Reed Army Medical Center on May 12, 2004.
Still struggling to get back to the burning truck to help members of his unit, a missile cut through the vehicle – and severed his left leg. While helping others, he survived two explosions and five bullet wounds. Now, the Orange County community is here to help him and his family. Building Homes for Heroes gifts mortgage-free homes to wounded veterans who served during the time of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Our organization adjusted our processes so that we have employees always checking in on our veterans to make sure they feel fully supported and their voices are heard. We also formed a new Ambassador Program featuring several of our veterans that allows them to have direct input in all of our decision making.

About eight or nine weeks after the accident, Forbess was told of the helicopter crash. After extensive rehabilitation and numerous surgeries, he had to learn to walk again and become self-sufficient. Because the crash left him with severe burns to his face, head, right shoulder and right arm, he has undergone a series of surgeries and skin graphs to rebuild his nose and ear. Who works and leads organizations that serve our diverse communities?
We will celebrate our 300th home in 2022, and hope to reach our 400th home in 2024. The nonprofit has an opportunity to tell the story of how the organization adapted to tremendous external changes in the last year. We adapted by going completely remote, and holding all of our meetings virtual and/or by phone. While this proved to be difficult for our administrative duties, i.e. handling contracts and other paperwork, strong leadership from our organization's officers helped make a smooth transition. Building Homes for Heroes Celebrates 300 Homes!
While we always like to feel that there was no dividing line between our staff and the people we serve, we feel like we've now become even more of one giant team and family. We are continuing to work remotely throughout 2021 into 2022 and incorporate video conferencing more often in our meetings. We are also moving more of our promotion materials to digital which is easier to access and exchange when people are working remote.
We check to be sure that the charity has reported on its Form 990 its process for determining its CEO pay. Such a policy protects the organization, and by extension those it serves, when it is considering entering into a transaction that may benefit the private interest of an officer or director of the organization. Charities are not required to share their conflict of interest policies with the public.

The next stop for Herrick was a spinal cord and brain injury facility in Tampa. A high percentage of those wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan have suffered debilitating brain injuries, after being victimized by improvised explosive devices and land mines. These medical facilities have intense programs, which are specialized for soldiers like Herrick to ensure that they receive the type of care geared to getting them to the most independent level possible. We will continue to build awareness through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and others.
These Veterans put their lives on the line to protect our freedoms and now they need, and deserve, our support. With your help Homes For Heroes will provide them with housing along with the resources, services and training that will enable them to successfully transition back into civilian life. This process indicates that the organization has a documented policy that it follows year after year. The policy should indicate that an objective and independent review process of the CEO's compensation has been conducted which includes benchmarking against comparable organizations.
Deslauriers, a 1st Special Operations Civil Engineer Squadron explosive ordnance disposal technician, was mounted in a mine resistance vehicle conducting a post-blast assessment of an IED explosion in Afghanistan. Explosive Ordnance disposal specialists are tactical and technical explosive efforts who are trained to destroy and disable unexploded ordnance, improvised explosive devices and weapons of mass destruction. In an effort to get a closer look at the damage done by an IED blast, MSgt. Deslauriers losing both legs above the knee, and his left arm at the elbow. Since Jason is at a very high risk of having a deadly allergic reaction while in surgery, the doctors thought it was best to do as much as possible as quickly as they could.
It is important for donors to have easy access to this financial report to help determine if the organization is managing its financial resources well. Building Homes for Heroes hopes to reach as many as 40 homes in 2022. In September, the organization will celebrate its milestone 300th home, and hopes to reach its 400th home in 2024. When this happens, it's usually because the owner only shared it with a small group of people, changed who can see it or it's been deleted. In the heart of the pandemic in the spring and early summer much focus from major corporations and individual donors was to fundraise for essential workers, appropriately so. A general website policy which references "visitor" or "user" personal information will not suffice. A policy that refers to donor information collected on the website is also not sufficient as the policy must be comprehensive and applicable to both online and offline donors.
The organization builds or modifies homes, and gifts them, mortgage-free, to veterans and their families. These homes not only help to remove the family's financial burden, they help to restore the individual's freedom, and enable the veteran to lead a more independent and productive civilian life. It's our honor to support the men and women who have loyally and courageously served our country.
